Geography

We follow the School Curriculum set out by the Department for Education http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/curriculum/primary/b00199002/geography/ks2

In Reception and Key Stage 1 the children follow a two year rolling programme. They develop their Knowledge, Skills and Understanding through the following topics:

Wonderful Witterings – Local area study, routes, maps and environment.

Houses and Homes – This is a study of an Island home through the stories of Katie Morag by Mairi Hedderwick.

Happy holidays – Learn about seaside holidays, maps of the UK and world. Also we look at our local area as a seaside location.

Amazing Animals – Mini beasts, native animals and animals from around the world.

 

In Key Stage 2 the children follow a four year rolling programme. They continue to develop their Knowledge, Skills and Understanding through the following topics:

Amazon Adventure – Study of distant localities and environmental conservation.

Fire and Ice – Contrasting localities, hot and cold countries, such as Australia and Iceland. They will also look at weather patterns,

Our Precious World – A locality study. Including changes in our environment, recycling, beach environment, pollution and tourism.

Saris and Spices – Countryside and city comparisons in India. Lives of children in India, River Ganges.

Our Heritage – A study of our local area: the development of the Witterings and Chichester.

Go with the Flow – A study of rivers and coasts.
